'I do think it very queer that we know more about the movement of a comet that is thousands of miles away than the workings of a woman's body'
Rural Suffolk, 1759. As the country waits for Halley’s Comet, Sally Poppy is sentenced to hang for a heinous murder. When she claims to be pregnant, a jury of twelve matrons are taken from their housework to decide whether she’s telling the truth, or simply trying to escape the noose.
Set against the backdrop of 18th-century rural Suffolk, this welkin examines how the female body has been perceived, both then and now. Through the lens of a darkly comedic period drama, it tackles contemporary issues, using deliberate anachronisms to underscore the persistence of these enduring perceptions.

★★★★ The broad online
‘Carr-Jones’ direction is astute, utilising space effectively to give the story visual depth and ensuring each character is visible and well-defined.’
